Privacy notice
This site was designed around a simple rule: the less data that exists, the less there is to protect.
Calculator inputs — processed on your device only
Every calculator runs entirely in your browser. The numbers you type are held in page memory, used to compute the result on screen, and discarded when you leave. No calculator input is ever transmitted to our servers— the maths is pure client-side code, which you can verify in your browser's network tools.
Your selected tax year may be remembered in your browser's localStorage (functional category) so the site feels consistent between visits. It never leaves the device and can be cleared from your browser settings at any time.
Statistics — consent-gated and coarse by design
If you accept Statistics cookies we record a small set of anonymous events: calculator used, tax year checked, and a coarse outcome category (refund / none / owe / unsupported). Money values, tax codes and free text can never be sent — the code that builds events rejects them by design, and a unit test fails our build if that ever changes. Provider (GA4 or Plausible) loads only after consent; with Reject, nothing loads at all.
Contact form
If you write to us we process your name (optional), reply address and message solely to respond — including for error reports under our corrections process. Messages are retained for up to 12 months to track corrections properly, then deleted. We do not use submissions for marketing, and we do not log message content anywhere except the mail system that delivers it.
Your rights (UK GDPR)
- Access, rectify or erase personal data we hold (likely only a contact email exchange)
- Withdraw consent at any time via "Cookie preferences" in the footer
- Complain to the ICO (ico.org.uk) if you believe we have mishandled data
Controller and contact
The data controller is the site operator listed on the About page, reachable at hello@refundcalculator.co.uk. Registered details are published there once verified.
